#ClimateEmergency Declaration

Countries (Ireland, UK), States (California), cities (Vancouver BC, San Francisco ) have enacted climate emergency declaration.

Over 500 local governments have declared a climate emergency and committed to action to drive down emissions at emergency speed. They represent over 60 millions people.

Will Seattle be next? Should Seattle be next?

In 2013, Seattle adopted its climate action plan (CAP) with a aim at reaching carbon neutrality by 2050.

First, this target is too low for a rich city like Seattle: Being zero emission by 2050 is what the WORLD would need to reach to stay below a 1,5C temperature increase. It is shared by countries (through the principles of the Paris Agreement) and by scientists that rich countries will need to reach zero emission way before 2050.

Second, Seattle is already falling behind its own CAP!

For more than 15 years, leaders of the Emerald City have been promising that Seattle will lead the nation in fighting climate change.

We need the Seattle City Council to enact a Climate Emergency Declaration to align to what sciences is telling us we need to do!
